A thirty-year milestone became the perfect moment to reintroduce a hyper-local news program with a revitalized brand and a renewed focus on telling the stories that matter most to the community. I led the development of the brand identity and directed a comprehensive marketing campaign that spanned multiple channels and audience touchpoints.

I’ve had the privilege of supervising and mentoring over 25 high school and college-level interns across a range of roles in communications and media. I was fortunate to have a few exceptional mentors early in my life; people who gave me the chance to try, fail, learn, and grow. Their willingness to share real opportunities shaped my understanding of what was possible. I’ve carried that spirit forward by offering emerging professionals meaningful experiences whenever I can. Whether it’s exposing new team members to high-level projects or helping them navigate the challenges behind the scenes, I believe that true learning comes from seeing the full picture, both the rewarding and the difficult. It’s through that exposure that people begin to understand not just the roles they want, but the path to get there. Many of my former interns have gone on to pursue graduate study, competitive fellowships, and roles with various organizations.
In the spring of 2019, I mentored Bryce and Sophia, co-op interns from Northeastern University. One of the most meaningful milestones in my internship programs has been offering interns the opportunity to create an original, student-produced project. This initiative gives them the freedom to explore topics that genuinely resonate with their interests, while also challenging them to take ownership from concept to execution.
Sophia, an international student from Italy, proposed a compelling idea: a mini-documentary exploring the emotional and often challenging journey international students face navigating the U.S. visa process and adapting to life in a new country. Bryce joined as co-producer, and together they shaped a concept that would include interviews with students and Northeastern staff, offering insight into the resilience required to learn far from home.
As we worked together and refined the scope, the university president emerged as a potential interview subject, someone instrumental in fostering the institution’s international growth. When I suggested they reach out to his office, they hesitated. “Why would he agree to do a student project?” they asked. I replied simply: “He’s the president of your university. It never hurts to ask.”
They sent the email. Two weeks passed—no reply. I encouraged them to follow up again with a clear deadline. Within 24 hours, they received a response and five days later, we were on campus, conducting the interview. You can view the final project in the upper left window.
I still have the photo I took of Bryce and Sophia standing proudly with the university president. It's proof that initiative, persistence, and a little coaching can turn uncertainty into opportunity. I’m confident they carried that lesson forward into their own professional paths.
Teaching isn’t just something I give, it’s something that gives back in lasting and meaningful ways. Each class I lead sharpens my communication, deepens my empathy, and reminds me of the value of curiosity and structure in learning. As an adjunct instructor in higher education, I’ve designed and taught undergraduate courses in communication, strategy, and media, always with a focus on connecting theory to practice.
